What is legal translation and attestation in the UAE?

Getting an official document accepted in the UAE usually takes more than a good translation. Depending on where the document was issued and who is asking for it, it may need legal translation into Arabic by a translator licensed by the Ministry of Justice, attestation through a chain of authorities, notarisation, or all three. The right sequence depends entirely on the receiving authority.

How does ClearDocs handle your documents?

We start by assessing the document itself rather than selling a package. We confirm what the receiving authority requires, tell you the sequence of steps and what it will cost, and then handle the translation, attestation and notarisation through one point of contact. Where a step depends on an outside body, we say so, along with the timeline that body works to.

Requirements are set by the authorities below, not by service providers. We work against their published rules.

    Frequently asked questions

What is legal translation in the UAE?+
Legal translation is the translation of official documents by a translator licensed by the UAE Ministry of Justice, for use with courts, ministries and government departments. In most cases a document must be translated into Arabic before a UAE authority will consider it.
What is document attestation and when do I need it?+
Attestation is a chain of verifications that lets a document issued in one country be recognised in another. You typically need it for educational certificates, marriage and birth certificates and commercial documents, for purposes such as employment, family sponsorship or company formation.
Do my documents need to be translated into Arabic?+
Usually yes. Most UAE courts, ministries and notaries require documents in Arabic, or in bilingual form, prepared by a legal translator. We confirm exactly what your receiving authority asks for before any work begins.
    How much will it cost?+
There is no single fixed price, because cost depends on the document, the language pair, the authorities involved and any government fees. Send us a clear copy and we will assess it and give you a quote, with government charges shown separately from our service fee wherever possible.
How long does the process take?+
It depends on the service and the authorities involved. Attestation in particular includes steps handled by bodies outside the UAE, which run to their own timelines. We give you a realistic expected range with your quote rather than a headline promise.
Will my documents be accepted by the authority?+
Acceptance is always the decision of the receiving authority. We prepare your documents to the standard those bodies normally require and tell you the requirements we are aware of, but no provider can guarantee a third party decision.
